Hey all!
It has been a while since I last wrote some news... Received an email on Friday from a friend in SA saying she misses the virtual travelling, so here is a little update...
The trains were delayed, and travelling from work in the snow was a bit of a challenge! As there were less trains and trams running, it was survival of the fittest! The one guy pushed me from the tram with my laptop and handbag, just so he could get on. The doors shut in my face, and I was left in the cold:) The snow fell on the Friday, and on the Saturday morning it was -16 degrees!!!!! They say that, that Friday night, was the coldest night the Netherlands have experienced in decades! I went out the Saturday morning to take some pictures of the snow! It was amazing - the sun was out, it was freezing cold, but everything was covered in White!!! BEAUTIFUL!!! Here is some pics :)
As it has been so cold this past weeks, the grachte (waterways), FROZE!!! So we had real, live ice skating rinks, in the middle of Amsterdam!! The water froze so hard, that you are able to skate on it. The director I currently work for, brought me an extra pair of ice skates which she had at her house. Last night, at 21:30, I took them for a spin on Prinsengracht! It was amazing!!! It was a beautiful, ice cold evening, and there were people everywhere, enjoying the beautiful surroundings! I felt really blessed when skating there - definitely something I will remember for a very long time!!

Busy season started, and therefore my time has been a bit limited :) We have not yet travelled again, but we have been doing fun things in and around Amsterdam. It snowed last week for the first time!!! It is supposed to be Spring almost, but I think the Winter is here :) In full force! It is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Really made my week! My Dutch friends working with me, really enjoyed the fact that I was going on like a kid... Trying to take photos from the office - even though there was a glare on the window:) I just needed to capture the snow on photos! I just blamed it on the fact that we come from SA and this is not something we see every day :)

Some boats frozen to the canal :)
We had a mini-karnaval party at a friends place two weeks back... The Dutch has this big tradition, in the South of the Netherlands, called Karnaval. It is almost the same as Maties Karnaval - with Vlotte, and parades ect. As we are in busy season at work, they decided to have a pre-karnaval warm up, at some friends house... We had to dress up in Karnaval clothing - there was dutch girls, cowboys, Minie Mouse, Tina Turner, and even Spiderman made an appearance! I add some pictures :) It was really a lot of fun!!! My Dutch friend, Elke, invited me for dinner the week before we had this party, and she had a box full of dress-up things! She borrowed me some Angel wings and a halo :)
